Week 4/5 Progress B

End of week 4/ Beginning Week 5

This week I started modelling the starter house interior.

For this I looked up

  • how to quickly model stairs.
  • how to add thickness to a mesh with out having to spend a large amount of time

Once I had Model the Floors layout I worked out how to get this model into unreal and scale it to the correct size.
  • I used Maya's inbuilt Unreal connection to send it into a test unreal project and streamline my process.
  • Doing this I had to figure out how this worked.
  • This is done by setting the unreal project and using the same drop down exporting selection.
  • I then imported it into unreal and made it a blueprint so I could place the building down as once actor.
Once I had it in unreal I had to work out how collisions work in unreal.
I used complex collisions as this keep the collisions close to the mesh while also speeding up the process of making collisions.

As this will be its own level. Performance will not need to be super important but I am still trying to keep the tris down to limit the performance while also making sure that the collision wont be super heavy on performance.

Overall the model isn't finished but it is helping me understand the process of taking a model and adding it into unreal and being able to adjust collision meshes
